Day 43

Date: 12 Apr 2016 1040PM

Location: The Place Hostel - Damascus, VA

Today's Miles: 18.5

Total Miles: 468.8

Day started out cold, and wet. Started raining early this morning and continued long into the afternoon. I don't mind being cold, and I don't mind being wet, but combine the two and that's my idea of the worst hiking conditions ever.

Luckily, the sun came out in the afternoon and dried me off completely. This was necessary mainly because the rain jacket I purchased from L.L. Bean did an absolutely horrible job of keeping me dry longer than 15 minutes of wearing it. The main zipper down the front leaked horribly, and the wet and cold quickly spread throughout my entire torso. I will be returning it and purchasing something else.

Otherwise, I made it into Damascus, VA today, completing state number three on the trail. Virginia is the longest state out of all, consisting of more miles in length then I've hiked to date, but I'm not going to let that get me down.

Zero day tomorrow. Already went shopping for groceries today, so all that's left administratively is to get some laundry done and rest up as much as possible.
