Rough go today.
Day started out well enough, had a massive breakfast at the hostel before pushing out. Set myself a lofty goal of a seventeen mile day with the goal of reaching a shelter.
The hostel is located very near the base of the first big mountain of the Whites, Mount Moosilauke. Took a bit longer to climb than expected, but it by much. We were blessed with fantastic views and relatively warm temperatures. The wind was blowing hard, but there was a nice rock ledge that we all sat behind and ate our food by.
After leaving the summit, the trail turned against us. Incredibly steep, slippery rocks were the plan of the day, and even after it flattened out it was a muddy, wet disaster of a trail.
Realized that I wasn't going to make it to the shelter at a reasonable time, so I kept on hiking until I found a suitable stealth campsite. It's just barely big enough, and while the ground is full of roots, they shouldn't bother me since I have an air mattress that blows up pretty lofty.
Looking forward to some big views coming up. And maybe some slack packing opportunities.
