Rained on and off last night. Glad it did, cooled things off for a few hours. Got a little wet, not terribly so, but if not pitched properly my tent creates an extremely slow drip in one particular spot, which is exactly what happened.
Doesn't help that it's gone from freezing at night to remaining above 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Personally, I prefer it colder at night, but from my newfound knowledge of local customs they definitely prefer it warmer.
Walked for most of the morning along the LOST, a paved bike path which in this section of trail directly borders a busy highway. Made it to the town of Lakeside, FL around noon and treated myself to a bacon cheeseburger, some chili fries, and a boatload of sweet tea at a divey place close to the trail.
Finished eating and charging my electronics, heading out in the warmest weather yet. It was above 75, over 90% humidity. I could even see those wavy heat lines in the distance.
With no trees around you kind of just end up plodding along in the sun until the day is done, which is when all of the local variations of flora and fauna come out to play.
So many birds down here, most of which I've never encountered before. Some of which do not sing as much as bark when they're flying around. I joked earlier that it's very Jurassic Park, and in all seriousness I don't think it's very far off.
Stopped a little early today to give my tent and sleeping kit time to dry out before darkness fell. With the constant high humidity and recent rain, things have started to become perpetually moist, a state I would like to prevent as much as possible.
Beautiful sunset this evening. I don't know what it is about this place, perhaps the feeling that you've earned it somehow by watching it cross the sky the entire day, but whatever it is the sunsets here are fantastic.
