Up at first light, excited for some hot food this morning. Woke up a bit dehydrated, water was tricky yesterday.
Walked the two miles to the River Ranch Resort, a very fancy looking place for people with money to enjoy themselves at a cowboy-esque experience. Had a very theme park vibe, and the prices there reflect this.
Paid $18 for a microwaved breakfast sandwich, some frozen biscuits and gravy, and a cup of coffee. All of the items in their general store did not have prices on them, and upon watching a few other people get their items paid for I picked my jaw up off the floor and hightailed it out of there.
Found myself an outlet outside a building and charged up while I updated the website and caught up with the world. Drank some water, used the facilities, and off I went.
After roadwalking out of the ranch complex, the next couple of miles were in some pretty cool prairie land. Hip high tall grasses were involved, with little visibility around my feet. Almost injured my knee jumping over a huge snake I didn't see until I was about to step on it, and I was paying attention for just that reason.
Short lived, I got dumped onto a five plus mile road walk with cars speeding in both directions in excess of sixty miles per hour. I get it that sometimes this trail requires a road walk, but there's absolutely no reason for hikers on a National Scenic Trail to be walking on what's effectively a highway.
Dirt roads and more prairie for the late afternoon portion. Arrived at camp as the sun was setting. Managed to find a spot in a clump of trees, but the wind is still blowing pretty strong tonight.
