Normal start today, at least for me. First light woke me up, out before 0800.
Hit up the town of Paisley first thing this morning since it was so close to the trail. Stopped in at the local gas station hoping for some hot breakfast, but their grill was closed because an employee was out sick. Grabbed a Gatorade and an Arizona Tea and off I went.
Stopped at the library for about an hour to charge up and use the WiFi. Updated the trail journal, downloaded a bunch of new podcasts and shows on Netflix, chatted with the wife for a bit.
Temperature warmed up similar to yesterday and I had to drink a bit more water than usual. Terrain is slowly starting the gain in elevation compared to further south, actually walked up and down multiple little hilly spots today.
Sat by a road and ate some lunch. I usually eat according to the principle of "eat the best thing in your bag and you'll never be disappointed", so lunch today was an entire pack of thick sliced bologna. Definitely hit the spot.
Afternoon was pleasant enough. Apparently I'm walking through the largest "contiguous sand pine scrub forest" in the world. It's basically exactly as it sounds, a mash up of sand, pine trees, dirt, and palms.
Trail walked through a small day use picnic area by a lake. Overnight camping isn't allowed, which is a shame because the area is really nice and has a pitcher pump, bathrooms, tables, and some fire pits and grills. There was a small contingent of hikers out for a week who were risking it and camping anyway, wasn't my idea of a good time so I pushed on.
Found a spot a mile or two north on the other side of the same lake. Views are pretty damn good, got to watch the sun set over the lake as I was setting up my tent.
Looks like I'll be having lunch tomorrow with a friend of the family's parents who live close to the trail. Looking forward to meeting them, and eating a hot meal.
