Woke up before the sun, packed up quick. It was pretty cold out still so I drug all my stuff inside the bathhouse and used the light and relative warmth inside to pack up in.
Morning was spent hiking through the park. Came in the back door of the park last night, walked the trail through the park and out the front gate. Stopped at the ranger station, paid the camping fee, and was on my way.
Walked through Camp Blanding today as well, a ~six mile portion of trail that meanders through a National Guard post. Really nice piece of trail - well maintained, well blazed.
Took a side trip to a local BBQ joint a mile and a half off trail. It was totally worth the extra miles. Had myself their AYCE platter and sampled every meat on the menu, and half of the sides as well.
Walked back to the trail and spent the majority of the afternoon walking on roads of one sort or another. Heard the neighborhood I was walking towards was in a bad part of town, and it definitely looked the part. I've seen more trailers and loose dogs in the past two days than I have in my entire life.
Someone recommended a local bed and breakfast instead of tenting so I checked them out. Called them up, explained that I didn't need most of their services and asked if I could get a reduced rate and tent on their lawn merely to have someone safe to sleep. Proprietor wasn't having it, definitely don't get a lot of hikers through here.
Ended up walking into the dark again tonight. Isn't too bad when the trail is suitable for it, but even in ideal conditions down here it can be a bit creepy.
Managed to find a suitable stealth spot well outside of town. Been quiet so far, except for the raccoons. Here's to hoping they leave me alone tonight.
