Long day of way more sun then I've had in months, and a constant 10-15 mph wind blowing directly at me for the majority.
Even so, a good day. A whole day of walking through open fields alongside canals on dikes and dirt roads.
Trail magic as well, kind of anyway. Before stopping for lunch I found an unopened single serving size bag of Ruffles chips on the ground, and after lunch I found a 12 oz. bottle of Mountain Dew. Both were pretty battered, obviously being out in the elements for quite some time, but each was still sealed and tasted delicious regardless.
I'm starting to realize the beauty in this place. It's definitely different from what I've experienced either in the Appalachian mountains or the Cascades and Sierras out west, but in its own way it's still special and I'm glad to be apart of it.
We'll see how I feel after a few more weeks of being out here, but that's all part of the experience.
Had a bit of trouble at the end of the day finding a place to put down for the night. Wind was blowing particularly hard, and the vegetation was at that perfectly bothersome height of about shin high, super dry and sharp, with prickly vines growing throughout.
Managed to find an alright spot, even if I had to wrestle my tent into place against the wind and severely mash down some errant plants beneath my ground cloth.
Thankfully, the wind slowed down as the sun set, which allowed me to go out and tie things down a bit more securely before calling it for the night.
Town of Clewiston tomorrow after a full day of hiking. I hear there's a Chinese buffet and a Walmart, might take a Nero if the town is inviting. Resupply, laundry, get my fill of hot foods, and head out at the end of the day.
