How You Can Help
Everyone needs help at some point in their lives. You yourself may have needed to lean on another to get through a difficult time.
Donating to charitable organizations can be tricky, both in parting with your hard-earned money, and having to make sure your donation goes towards what you would expect it to - actually helping those in need.
If you feel moved to help individuals in situations like myself but don't know what to do, below are two organizations of which I wholeheartedly trust, endorse, and have seen first-hand what they do with their donations.
The Semper Fi Fund
"The Semper Fi Fund provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post-9/11 wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their families, ensuring that they have the resources they need during their recovery and transition back to their communities."
From personal experience, the Semper Fi Fund provides assistance in the form of grants to veterans that range the gamut from adaptive home and vehicle modifications, to their specialized program to help veterans Recover through Sport, Team Semper Fi.
Lean and mean, the Semper Fi Fund is rated as a top charity in both financial responsibility, accountability, and transparency by Charity Watch.
"Walking With The Wounded supports a pathway for vulnerable veterans to re-integrate back into society and sustain their independence. At the heart of this journey is employment."
Walking with the Wounded offers assistance through it's programs to those vulnerable veterans who have been physically, mentally or socially disadvantaged by their service and assist them in sustaining their independence through new sustainable careers outside of the military. From providing support to homeless veterans and veterans in the Criminal Justice System, to connecting veterans with mental health professionals, sustainable employment is the end goal, with independence for veterans and their families the desired result.
