Woke up frozen, chilled to the bone. Tent was super droopy from all the snow and ice that accumulated throughout the night. Needless to say I didn't sleep very well.
Took a good hour to pack up all of my wet, frozen gear. Had to take multiple breaks to warm up the hands and stomp some feeling into my feet. Looking forward to getting my winter gear in a couple of days in South Lake Tahoe.
After plenty of time warming, rewarming, and packing, the three of us headed out. Been hiking the past few days with a girl named Puddin' and a Hispanic dude named Ulysses (real name!). Last night we found a spot a little off trail down a paved forest service road that hadn't been covered in snow and setup just before dark.
Trail was pretty destroyed with snow so we hiked down into town via a network of forest service roads that parallel the trail. They were pretty bad as well, but were much easier to follow.
Made it into town around noon. Stopped at the Methodist church to hang all of our wet gear up, did some quick stream laundry, and headed straight to the town cafe. Sierra City is small to say the least, so everything is pretty close.
After many cups of coffee, some fish and chips, a platter of chicken fingers, and multiple baskets of fries, I left the group and made my way over to the library to use the free WiFi.
Hit up the general store next for resupply, and ordered a one pound hamburger with all the fixings. The three of us chatted as the food was prepared, which took quite some time due to the proprietor getting bombarded with customers. He did reopen the grill just for us though, so we didn't mind waiting.
Managed to find a used bear canister for the Sierras on Facebook. Friend who lives near San Francisco who I met on the Appalachian Trail last year was kind enough to accept receipt and offered to meet me at Sonora Pass.
Sleeping pad is slowly dying, popped another two baffles over the past few days. Currently have a ginormous bulge poking straight up over three inches into my legs while I lie on backwards to avoid the bulge poking into my upper back. Warranty claim is in, waiting on a new mat to ship.
Took a free cold shower at the town public restrooms, returned to and climbed into my tent, watched an episode of Parks and Recreation, attempted to sleep.
