Coldest night yet last night, luckily I pitched my tent in such a way that the morning sunlight steamed directly into my tent and warmed me up as I woke.
Packed up, did the morning chores, and off I went. Motivation was high as it would be a shorter day into Donner Pass and a nice lodge for the evening.
A bit of ups and downs throughout, not too much elevation change though. This close to the Sierras, any civilization encountered is typically around 7,000-8,000 feet.
Beautiful day otherwise, clear blue skies with little cloud cover. Been getting some pretty pink skin the last few days from all the direct sunlight and lack of tree cover to walk under.
Made it to the road at Donner Pass around noon and managed to get an easy hitch the short distance to the lodge. Checked in, got settled into the bunk room, showered, laundried, and relaxed.
Two other hikers I've been hiking with the last week showed up later in the day. They did their chores and we all met up for dinner in the dining hall. Lodge eats family style, and it was *delicious*.
Cleaned up after dinner, chatted with the night shift for a bit, and hung around in the hot tub for a few hours before bed.
Going to be hard to get back on trail tomorrow after such a relaxing afternoon, but at least we get breakfast and a sack lunch to take with.
