What a day - completely pooped.
Woke up around 0345 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. Took it as an omen and got out of bed around 0515. Packed up, made breakfast, and started hiking by 0615.
Pretty good scenery overall. Mt. Ranier has been looming for days, and today we finally walked along the border of Mt. Ranier National Park. Ranier is even more impressive up close.
Started getting glimpses of Mt. Adams as well today. All of the north bounders keep telling me how impressive Adams is, we'll see how it goes once I get there.
Hiked my first thirty mile day ever today. Wasn't the worst feeling in the world, although if you would have told me that it was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside I would have probably wouldn't have attempted it!
Mosquitos were a complete mess the last eight miles today. Not merely an annoyance, but full on swarming. At least it hasn't rained yet.
Made it to the road around 1830, much earlier than I thought I would. Got an old slice of pizza for free, drank a Gatorade, and picked up my replacement hiking poles. Arranging a UPS pickup for the hotel tomorrow to return the old poles since there's no UPS drop off locations close by.
Ordered way too mix food at the local pizza place. I *always* do this. It's like I forget that if I want more food I can order some. Probably just pack or what I don't eat for breakfast tomorrow.
All cleaned up and in the hotel room. Using the grocery store wifi which is on the backside of my hotel room. Isn't the classiest of places, but the manager gave me and another guy I rolled in with each half off and our own rooms. Not too shabby.
Probably take it slow tomorrow, grab some breakfast, resupply, and head back to the trail.
