Crashed in a nice spot last night, was pretty tired and left a compression sack and my sun hat randomly on the ground outside my tent.
Slow start as well today, I'm stoked that I'm finished with this regime of antibiotics. Hope they worked and took care of the infection because it was hell being on them and hiking big days.
Been going back and forth wth the manufacturer of the pack I'm hiking with. Same company as when I was on the AT. Had some big problems with my last pack, so they offered me a newer model at a discount. Having troubles with this new pack as well and the back and forth hasn't been very fruitful.
Really gets me upset when I end up in a veritable standoff with customer service.
Took it relatively slow today, if only because my legs felt like lead and my lungs were on fire. Walked through a big cloud of smoke for most of the day, made moving forward pretty tough.
Eventually made it to my destination, a road leading out of the national forest. Been putting resupplying off for the past few stops because it was wicked expensive, so I had no choice but to head into town.
The town I went into isn't typically hiker resupply point, although it is relatively close to the trail. Ended up getting a ride from a trail angel who has been stocking a few water caches in the area. I helped him unload quite a few five gallon jugs of water and in return he brought me to the town of Chemult.
Arrived in town and checked out the local general store before it closed. As I was talking to the woman behind the counter a local, older woman came in to pickup some food she had ordered. After chatting her up and asking about places to stay, she informed me that she lived right next door and offered me a hot shower and a spare bedroom in her place. I don't take generosity, kindness, or anything of the like very easily, but the offer was too good to pass up so I followed her back to her place.
I dropped off my stuff and headed down the road to the local cafe. Had myself a burger, some chicken fingers, fries, baked potato, toast, and some soup before topping everything off with an ice cream bar from the gas station.
Walked back over to the kind woman's place, showered, changed, and crawled into bed. So nice to meet friendly and helpful people.
Probably take a half day off tomorrow while I resupply and refuel. There's a fire just south of Crater Lake that I'm going to have to divert around, probably end up doing a bit of a road walk.
