Out of camp by 0730. Later start than I would like, but I'll take sleep over sitting up all night staring at the ceiling of my tent any day.
Hiked for most of the morning, running into all of the NOBOs who were hustling up the trail to try and make it into town. Wish they weren't so rude.
Stopped for an early lunch at a junction of the trail which is currently closed due to the fires in this area. There are a few portajohns setup for the personnel in the area, to include a representative from the forest service who's sole job was to sit there and make sure no one enters the danger area.
A very nice woman who's worked for the forest service for thirty years, we talked for almost an about random topics - ended up being one of the better conversations I've had the whole time out here.
Continued on my way and hiked thru most of the day. Saw something in my guidebook mentioning a side trail that used to be the PCT, that walked by some amazing waterfalls. The falls did *not* disappoint and were totally worth the trip.
Ate dinner at the falls so I didn't have to worry about it later as I planned on continuing hiking into the night. Ended up talking to a cool dude who's a triple crowner and was out for a few days with a buddy of his that hasn't overnighted once.
Crossed a quickly moving ford on a sketchy log, and hiked on and up the last hill before tomorrow comes. There's a fantastic AYCE buffet at a hotel up the trail, and trust me when I say that it's power on hikers increases exponentially as one draws near.
Found a stealth spot along the trail about half way up. Totally exhausted and can't wait for tomorrow's meal.
