Arrived pretty late last night so I decided to cowboy camp near a few other hikers who were settling in. It was ridiculously cold, and I was wet with dew by the time the sun rose. I’ve slept in a lot of holes in my life - I definitely prefer having a Shelter over my head nowadays.
Up with the sun, made it to the restaurant before they opened at 0700. Ended up spending way longer than anticipated there - charging electronics, eating, chatting with another hiker, eating some more, chatting with yet another hiker, and eating some more.
Left around 1230, with intentions on completing a full day of mileage. Grabbed a Gatorade and some Pringles from the gas station and walked on out of town.
Pretty uneventful hiking for most of the day. Entered the Lassen Volcanic National Park early in the afternoon, but didn’t make it far enough to see any of the cool stuff the park has to offer.
Hiked on and made it to my intended destination. The park has a few nuisance bears so bear canisters are required for the entire twenty miles of trail in the park. There’s campsite on the PCT that has bear boxes in it, so I hiked until 2200 and got myself setup.
It’s getting pretty cold at night now, I had my beanie and buff on while I was hiking and was still a bit cold. My finger dexterity is quickly getting worse as I type this lying in my tent, and I’m definitely sleeping with both my water filter, and electronics in my bag tonight.
