Up with the sun, unintentionally had my tent and face pointing directly at the sun rise. Excited to get into town, I packed up quick and headed the short distance to the road.
Waited a little over an hour and twenty minutes for someone to pull over. I get such mixed emotions hitching: happy and reassured that the world isn't awful when someone finally pulls over, but angry and spiteful when car after car passes me by.
Got to town around 0830. Man who picked me up hiked the trail a few years ago and gave me a brief tour. Dropped me off at the grocery store, I immediately walked across the street to a cafe called Cravings.
Spent about two hours eating and drinking, alternating between water and coffee, using the time to change up the electronics and upload to the journal. Hip little place with amazing food and a nice, relaxing atmosphere - wish there was a place like that back where I live.
Headed back across the street to resupply. Grabbed all the groceries I need for the next five days and went to a far corner of the parking lot to sort the food from its packaging, empty out my litter, and get ready to leave town.
A nice old man offered to drive me back to the trail since he was going that way, he just needed to run into the store and grab a few things. I went down to a burger joint that makes some amazing milkshakes and bought myself an order of fries and a chocolate and coffee shake.
Met another hiker outside who is finishing up a section from a few years ago and let him know about the hitch I scored. He ran across the street to grab a drink and we both hopped into the old man's truck as soon as he returned.
Made it to the halfway point today. The marker isn't in the right place anymore, but oddly enough has the proper mileage on it.
Rest of the day was pretty uneventful. Hiked until 2230 to get as many miles in as I could before it became too late in the evening.
Found a tent spot overlooking a cliff and valley. Dirt looked good until I attempted to put a stake in the ground. I definitely have each corner of my tent held down using a pile of rocks at each corner - improvise and overcome.
Climbed in the tent, watched an episode of Parks and Recreation as I ate a large bag of tortilla chips - ready for sleep.
