Loads of noises last night. Guidebook says there have been a few bears spotted at this campsite. Who knows, could have been them.
Out of camp by 0700, pushed pretty hard to get to my destination. Frequently interrupted by the incredulous amount of gnats and black flies out today. It was so bad that every step or two I had to swat them out of my mouth and eyes, and each time it felt like I had an entire handful of them.
Made it to the side trail that leads down to a gas station. Proprietor is super friendly to hikers and is allowing me to store my hiking gear there while I fly home for a week. Emptied my pack, tossed it all in an empty box she had lying around, taped it up and off I went.
Managed to get a ride to Redding, CA, approximately sixty miles away, from some dudes who stopped for gas. They dropped me in the center of town since the airport is on the outskirts, so I took a city bus to the airport.
Redding is a pretty tiny airport. A one gate, one airline sort of place. Security guard said that it's OK to spend the night inside since I have a boarding pass.
Headed upstairs and ate at the one restaurant on the premises. Delicious Chinese food ensued, washed it down with a couple of beers.
Returned downstairs to charge and backup my phone. Haven't had reliable wifi access in quite some time so my phone has been yelling at me to backup its data, as well as all of the photos and videos I've been taking.
While I waited for the last flight to arrive and the security officer to lock all the doors I went back upstairs and had second dinner.
Back downstairs I setup my sleeping stuff. Going to try and get an hour or two of sleep, although I'm not very hopeful that'll happen.
Taking a week hiatus to head home and see the wife and family.
Might be an intermediary post or two about gear or other miscellany, but I'll be back.
