Up early this morning, still trying to figure out what time makes the most sense. Out before the sun, desert is absolutely beautiful in the early morning.
Slept two miles outside of the town of Mount Laguna last night, walked in this morning. Was pretty early so none of the stores or restaurants were open, but I did meet a British couple who was using the WiFi outside the general store.
Talked with them for a little bit before waking out of town. Filled up my water on the way out.
Bumped into the same couple a few miles later. Hiked with them for most of the day, stopping around noon during the hottest part of the day for a siesta in a small recreation area with shade trees.
Left before everyone else, I kind of enjoy hiking in the heat of the day as long as I have enough water. Pushed on through the rest of the afternoon, stopping a bit earlier than usual to rest the body.
While I still have some pretty solid trail legs from the Florida Trail, there was little elevation gain there and I could only do so much at home in Maine in the winter, so it'll be a few more days at least until I get proper legs under me.
Nice spot this evening, grass and everything. A bit windy for my taste, but I put rocks down on my stakes so it should be alright.
Heading into Julian tomorrow to pickup a package containing my new trekking poles. Not a planned stop, but there's free beer and pie for hikers, so that'll do nicely as a side trip!
