Slept in this morning as much as I could. Super comfy bed, and with earplugs and a buff pulled over my eyes I was able to get a few hours of sleep.
Majority of my hiking stuff was packed up already so it was easy collecting my things. Took a shower, fried up the last of the bacon pieces I bought the day prior, and picked up the place before heading out.
Walked to a local sandwich shop that does breakfast sandwiches. Grabbed one for breakfast, put one in my pack, and drank some coffee while I FaceTimed the wife and bebe.
Walked out of the downtown area, bought a bottle of sparkling water from a gas station, and stuck out my thumb. Luckily, a local who trail angels on occasion picked me up after only a few minutes and I made it back to the trail in record time.
Grabbed a Mountain Dew from the cache of sodas as I mentally prepared to take back off hiking. Usually takes me a little bit of time to get back into the proper headspace after leaving the trail, even if only for a day.
Good day for walking. Not too warm, cool breezes, bright hot sun. Powered by a half pound of bacon, a breakfast sandwich and a large cup of coffee, I walked straight through the day only stopping for water. Even though I didn't return to the trail until noon, I still managed to get a solid twenty one miles in before calling it for the day.
Found an unmarked campsite as the sun was setting. Pitched up my tent, threw my stuff inside, blew up my brand new replacement air mattress.
Looked around before crawling in my tent. It's incredibly peaceful out in the wilderness. I've a laundry list of reasons why, but regardless, I'm at my best and feel most like myself when I'm out here.
