Another slow start today. After the realization that I don't have to get up early to still make big miles, if I'm feeling tired I'm going to just get the sleep I need instead.
Isn't easy for me to come to that conclusion, or even act on it, but when you're pushing yourself physically day after day, you become very aware of your body's needs, and even more so of it's deficiencies when the needs aren't met.
Took my time this morning, doing all the chores. Packed up, ate my oatmeal and sliced almonds, used the facilities. Started walking around 0800, and pushed straight through most of the day with minimal breaks.
Still dialing in my new dietary regime. Reduced the amount of carbohydrates I'm eating during the day, substituting in more protein and fats. Every few days I'll be hiking and will hit a wall, energy levels dropping precipitously. Could be any number of factors, whether heat, hydration, electrolytes, etc. Will continue to monitor and adjust as I walk north.
Arrived at Cajon Pass a bit before sunset today. There's a McDonald's at the freeway interchange and I've had chicken McNuggets on the brain all day. Walked in, threw some money at the cashier, stuffed my face.
Have a scheduled phone call tomorrow mid morning tomorrow so I'm going to hang around until that's complete since there's service in this area.
The trail walks underneath the freeway, and even though I'm camped directly next to the trail, I'm only a stone's throw from the multi lane road. It's noisy, but with earplugs should be manageable.
