Solid, restful morning.
Probably should have stayed and taken a day off, but it wasn't in my heart to do so.
Woke up to the sound of roosters and chirping birds. Super loud, but at least they waited until the sun rose.
Left all my stuff where I cowboy camped and went into the hiker house. Made myself a rasher of bacon, six eggs, and two avocados for breakfast. Drank a few cups of coffee, finished up the rest of the cookies I bought, chatted for awhile with a few other hikers as they prepared their own food.
Slowly went about doing town chores: getting laundry packed back up, resupplying my food, and repackaging gear to send back.
Left on the noon shuttle with a few other hikers, ended up getting lunch at the local cafe. Didn't plan on it, but sometimes it's about the social interactions out here.
Hiked out in full on sun, but clouds gradually surrounded us. As we climbed out of town the clouds started misting pretty hard, soaking us through with cold. Wind picked up as well, making for a miserable afternoon.
Lost the lunch crew somewhere on the climb out. Bumped into another hiker I hadn't met before, a thirty four year army retiree who retired this year. Good conversation, but he stopped before sunset and I kept on walking.
Made it to a campsite, happened to be directly under some high tension power lines. Set up, crawled in, and bundled up. Super humid and low temperatures tonight, the kind of bone chilling cold that you never warm from fully.
Wrote in the journal, watched some Parks and Recreation, ate the rice pudding I packed out for dinner.
Overall, a good day.
