Woke up a bit earlier than usual, wanted to make sure I had enough time to make it over Selden Pass with time to spare to make the last ferry to VVR at 1645.
Selden went well enough, the snow held up very well considering how warm it was today. A bit of post holing on both the way up and the way down, and while it took much longer than expected, overall it was a solid morning.
Clear sailing for the rest of the day once walking below snow line. Had to move quickly because Selden took longer than anticipated, but I managed to make it to the pickup point a mile off trail for transport by boat to the Vermilion Valley Resort.
Arrived at the resort only to be greeted by a Marine Corps flag flying proudly. Turns out the owner is a retired Marine, ended up talking over a beer as he checked me in.
Sidled over to the restaurant and met up with the only other hikers in the place. The five of us had dinner together, chatting all the while and commiserating about our experiences over the past week in the Sierra.
Sunset arrived and we all went over and set up our tents for the night. Two of us sat around a fire chatting into the evening with some people who were here for the extended Memorial Day weekend, something us hikers completely didn't realize was on until we arrived.
It was very fulfilling being able to share my experiences with the few interested people around the fire. Helps out both hiking and being on trail, as well as life in general, into perspective.
