Slow morning. Hiked later into the evening to make up some time milling around at Kennedy Meadows for half a day. Slept until the sun, and then some. I don't sleep well back in the world, so I get it where I can.
As I was packing up hikers started pouring out of the woodwork. Guess there was a large crew that cowboy camped just up the hill from where I camped. Most of them grabbed water and hiked on, but a few hung out for a little, warming themselves up in the sun since the temperature dipped below freezing last night.
Four foreigners, four different countries. Been hiking together since day one, and had just returned from a two week detour to the Grand Canyon.
We hiked around each other for the morning, but after lunch we parted ways. I don't usually take a lot of breaks throughout the day, preferring to keep moving instead.
Spent the majority of the day climbing today. Over 6,000 feet of elevation gained. It was definitely challenging, but now that we're up around 10,000 feet we'll stay up here for the next few days.
Have quite a few obstacles to tackle in the next few days. Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the lower forty eight states, the highest pass on trail, and the snow is going to start up sometime tomorrow.
Should be interesting.
